I tend to take my camera out with me on most of my runs. I love snapping a quick photo while running to remember how amazing Scotland is, in any weather. This past year I've been pretty active on Instagram and I'd like to take you through my year in pictures.
The year started with a bit of snow on my Sunday long run! It was amazing. The reservoir all iced over looked very nice.
I then had a really good run at Devilla 15k trail race, picking up a prize along the way! Mandy and I have ran this event for a number of years now and it's great as both of us get to race. Mandy runs the 5k trail while I run the 15k. This means she gets a run but is also there to shout support to me in the final stages of the race.
I was asked to stay on as an ashmei ambassador and I headed down on the Caledonian Sleeper to meet the new recruits for 2016/17. A whistle stop tour, down to Tring and back up to Edinburgh all within 24 hours.
I started a new job in April and so my daily run commute had to change. This may have impacted my yearly mileage total as it used to be 14 miles each day, but instead I ended up running a lot of loops of the local park near my new office.
I headed over to Tiree for the half marathon and finished 2nd overall. An amazing race with ups and downs on the route as well as personally during the race. I look forward to hopefully running Tiree again in 2017. The highlight of the race was seeing my old deputy head from Tiree jumping up and down shouting encouragement when she realised it was me. Cheers Jessie!
I bought a new camera and tripod which I could use while running, more action shots were to follow!
Mandy and I headed to Piperdam resort to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary and decided to run Dundee parkrun which saw me racing in my Hoka One One speedgoats. A very hilly course but the shoes did me proud and I finished 2nd overall. Mandy however, has a different tale to tell and intends to return to beat the hill.
Headed up to the Pentland hills with Robert for a long run on a windy day. I put a short video together of the run as well which can be viewed on YouTube.
I was asked to join the IAMRUNBOX team. They really embrace the run / cycle commuting idea and make great rucksacks which allow you to keep your workwear crease free while running to and from the office.
After a 3 year break from marathon running, in a moment of madness I signed up to Stirling Marathon! This will be my focus for the first half of 2017.
I won a race! This was the first race of the Foxtrail Winter Series. Six trail races in total over a variety of distances and terrain and I'm loving them!
Finished the year by looking back at some of my most liked photos on instagram.
It's been a great year for me, a number of podium finishes, a PB in every distance I've raced and training is coming along nicely.
I wish everyone a very Happy New Year when it arrives and I look forward to meeting and making new running friends throughout 2017.
