The weekend was not too bad for me, started by watching Mo Farah win the 5k at Moscow (on the TV) and then I tried to replicate his pace with Edinburgh parkrun on Saturday morning followed by Harrison Park on Sunday morning.
9:30am down at Crammond is a busy time on a Saturday morning but this weekend was even busier with a new Scottish record of 515 runners attending! I am pleased to say I finished 28th out of the 515, not a PB or at the pace of Mo but I felt I ran a consistant race.
After the tough training sessions of the previous week my legs felt really heavy for the first mile and with the head wind I wasn't complaining with the splits, but when we turned to head back to the finish line I was a bit annoyed that the wind had decided to turn back as well. A head wind out and back!!
I always struggle with the course at Edinburgh, I feel fine until the loop and once I come out of the loop feeling that I'm running uphill. I don't know what it is about this section but it soon passes.
Last week a I ran a total of 55 miles which I am happy with, missed by run on Monday so 55 is an OK amount of miles to clock up. I'm focusing more on quality sessions now as well. Last week I put in two good speed sessions and also some hill work and gym work.
Yesterday was the usual 16.5 mile route leaving from Harrison Park and once again the hill at mile 5 killed me, I lost the others and ended up running home alone. That doesn't bother me but I really need to beat the hill. I'm running all the way up it but I need to get faster. Progression went well yesterday with only one 'blip' on the way home. Not sure if that was due to the tunnel we run through and I lost GPS signal. Either way, mentally I was better prepared for the route as I now know that it's only 1.5 miles back to the park from where we come off the Water of Leith and rejoin the canal.
I've now added a tab on the menu to show all my training and races which is automatically updated when I update Endomondo, check it out if you want to see my routes etc.
Today will be an easy 10 mile run home from the office, not sure on the route yet, fancy something a bit different from the usual.
