This year my cross country (XC) running has gone pretty well so far, it's only been 2 races but still, I feel it's going well!
It started with the East District relays at Livingston. A 4km lap ran by 4 members per team. I was placed on the final leg of the first team for Pitreavie and we ran well. Finished 19th / 47 complete teams. I ran the 4km in 14:53 with my new Nike spikes.
This was the first time I've raced XC in spikes and it made a massive difference when attacking the hills. So much more grip! The conditions were firm underfoot which meant no mud, so at times it felt more like a trail race than XC but still very enjoyable.
Last weekend was the East District league race at Stirling. The weather was wet, very wet! I was so glad that we had the club tent with us so we could all shelter from the down pours. Spikes were required as this course was very muddy and soft underfoot. Although conditions were tough the race itself went pretty well for me. Finished 1st senior for the club and 2nd member of the club to finish with a position of 69th / 252 in 34:16 for 9km. I lost a couple of positions on the final hill but gives me something to work on for this weekend.
This weekend is the National relays at Cumbernauld, another 4km race but conditions are likely to be very muddy if previous years are anything to go by!
My times already this year are much improved on last year and I'm really enjoying the races. I'm also still going for my 16 mile run on a Sunday but I will blog about that later.
